Cheltenham Ladies College DormitoryDesign & Fit-out
Having worked with Cheltenham Ladies College for many years, we had another fantastic opportunity to showcase our design and build services with a unique, modern dormitory refurbishment. Being at the forefront of girl’s education for over 160 years, they wanted their dormitories to showcase their vibrant and diverse community with a contemporary design. A contrast to the traditional style they had chosen in the past.
With many of Cheltenham Ladies' College boarders being international, they wanted the new design to welcome the students into a space that nurtured their productivity and enthusiasm. Another important requirement was to create more privacy for the multi-student dorm but continue the culture of a group dorm. We formed a central storage divide which provided lighting, power, noticeboards, and extra shelving. Not only did this give the girls more of their own space, but it also provided extra storage and pinnable space to contain their personal memories. We took advantage of all the additional space underbed to create the shoe storage, creating a much more efficient design for the college.
Working closely with the Housemistress, our design team created physical mood boards and 3D renders of the space to allow the college to visualise what their new space would look like.
One of our favourite parts of the project was our opportunity to get creative with the flooring design. Utilising the space and layout of the furniture we created a playful, vibrant pattern using geometric shapes to reflect the passion and forward-thinking organisation that they are.
Cheltenham Ladies College required installation in time for the students to return after the Christmas break, which gave us a three-week turnaround time. Our project managers devised a seamless plan, coordinating contractors alongside our in-house fitters and floor layers, so COVID restrictions could be adhered to.
The result was a stunning set of bedrooms with the client overjoyed with what we had accomplished. Finishes, quality, and general feel had exceeded the initial brief.
