This data-centre upgrade introduced new technical and collaborative spaces within an operational facility, without compromising the security or continuity of ongoing operations. The design accommodated extensive sub-floor cable routing, independent climate-controlled zones and stringent acoustic requirements. Specialist high-performance acoustic glazing provided clear internal visibility while separating technicians working on high-intensity network diagnostics from adjacent breakout and debrief spaces. Avoiding an impersonal or enclosed working environment was equally important. Adaptable team areas and carefully planned sightlines allow people to move easily between focused technical work and real-time collaboration, improving communication within the facility’s highly secure perimeter. Delivery was carefully phased around the operational data centre. Construction activities, access arrangements and service interventions were planned to protect live systems throughout the works. The result is a technically robust environment that balances infrastructure performance, acoustic control and operational efficiency with a more open, connected experience for its teams.
