At Cobus, we design and create workplaces that support the needs of the people using them, and we encourage collaboration and reflect the way organisations work. Now, we’ve brought that same approach to our own new workplace design studio.

Our new studio provides a central hub for our South West team, bringing together collaborative project areas, private meeting spaces and flexible working environments that support the different ways our people work.

Created with our hybrid workforce in mind, the studio provides a dedicated base for our design work while offering a welcoming environment for clients, partners and our wider professional network across the South West.

It’s an exciting new chapter for Cobus and an opportunity to demonstrate how thoughtful workplace design can bring people, ideas and businesses together.

A new hub for our South West team

Hybrid working has changed how organisations use their offices. With employees dividing their time between different locations, the role of the physical workplace has evolved, placing greater emphasis on collaboration, connection and work that benefits from people being together.

For our South West team, the new studio provides a central location where colleagues can meet, exchange ideas and work alongside one another.

The space has been designed to accommodate different working styles, recognising that the requirements of a busy design team can vary considerably throughout the day. Collaborative project areas provide room for colleagues to develop concepts, review ideas and work together, while multiple private meeting spaces offer quieter environments for focused discussions, individual work and client conversations.

By providing a variety of settings, the new studio gives our team greater flexibility to choose the environment that best suits type of work they’re doing, supporting both collaborative and independent working.

A workplace design studio built around creativity and collaboration

Design is central to everything we do at Cobus, so creating an environment that supports our own creative processes was an important consideration.

The new studio now acts as a dedicated hub for our design work, bringing together the people, ideas and expertise behind the workplace environments we create for our clients. Collaborative project spaces encourage communication and the exchange of ideas, providing opportunities for our team to work together throughout the design process. Alongside these areas, private meeting spaces support more focused activities and conversations that require a quieter setting.

This combination reflects an important principle of contemporary workplace design: providing environments that respond to different activities and working preferences.

As a fully functional workplace design studio, the space supports the way our team operates while offering a practical example of the design thinking we bring to our clients’ projects.

Putting our workplace design approach into practice

Every workplace has its own requirements, shaped by the people who use it, the activities taking place and the wider objectives of the organisation. At Cobus, our projects follow an established four-stage methodology covering Strategy, Design, Detail and Construct. This structured approach helps us understand how organisations work before developing and delivering spaces that support their needs.

Our new studio reflects the principles behind that methodology, with careful consideration given to how our team collaborates, where different activities take place and how the space can support a hybrid working environment.

The layout brings together areas for shared project work and private discussions, creating a balance between interaction and individual focus.

These considerations are central to the workplace projects we deliver, where understanding the relationship between people, space and working behaviours helps inform design decisions. Our own studio provides an opportunity to bring those principles to life in an environment used by our team every day.

A place to connect with our clients and colleagues

While the studio has been designed around the needs of our team, its role extends beyond our day-to-day work.

We want it to become a welcoming place for clients, partners and businesses to connect, share ideas and build relationships. Having a dedicated space for face-to-face meetings creates opportunities for more meaningful conversations, whether we’re exploring ideas for a workplace project, catching up with an existing partner or getting to know other organisations in the region.

The studio also provides an environment where visitors can experience our approach to workplace design first-hand, seeing how different settings can work together to support collaboration, flexibility and focused work.

We’re looking forward to welcoming more people into the space and exploring opportunities to bring our wider network together for informal coffee mornings and networking events, creating opportunities to connect.
