Gloucestershire Airport

Design & Fit-out

We have recently undertaken a project with Gloucestershire Airport, which involved completing their long-awaited major refurbishment.

The team at Gloucestershire Airport were looking for a design that would attract more private jet users. This required them to do a complete refurbishment of the ground floor of the terminal building in order to create a more aesthetically pleasing area that appealed to it’s target market. More specifically, this involved an overhaul of the arrivals, departures lounge, security scanning area, main reception and waiting areas, washrooms, and the pilots’ rest room and breakout space.

On a limited budget, the Cobus team were required to transform the airport into a modern, corporate environment. This included making several revisions to the initial design, whilst still retaining specific objectives. We completed the project over a three-month period, which began during the summer months.

Although the project turned out to be a success with positive client feedback, we did face some challenges during the refurbishment. We tried to keep disruption in the terminal to a minimum, which meant we encountered a few delays and changes to the specification and programming of the project. On top of this, the works needed to be completed during normal working hours in order to keep costs within the agreed budget.

We also had to ensure that there was no compromise to the security of the arrivals and departures lounges, while also needing to have a flexible approach to the programme during busy times.

Throughout the programme, the existing reception desk was kept operational until a new desk was installed. Once this was completed, we were able to complete the final phases – which included furniture installation, finishes and commissioning.
